AMES 212 PRECISION DIAL INDICATOR w/ Aluminum horseshoe bar.

An estate find:
A vintage AMES 212 PRECISION DIAL INDICATOR 0.0001" , VINTAGE PRECISION INSTRUMENT with aluminum bar attached. It’s approx. 15 1/2” long.   I’m not sure if it originally came like that or not.  I’m not sure what it was used for.  Both the bar and dial both have wear and some blemishes, aluminum bar has  a few indentations on the aluminum- possibly where something once clamped onto it not sure.
