The Fowler 52-562-999 horizontal test indicator has a 1.125" diameter black face balanced dial, a 0.030" measuring range, 0.0005" graduations, two carbide points, and jeweled bearings, and is designed to measure surface variations in narrow or recessed areas. The black face has a contrasting hand to make measurements easy to read. The 0-15-0 balanced dial has a total measuring range of 0.030" with 0.0005" graduations. The auto-reverse mechanism and jeweled bearings provide accurate measurements. Two interchangeable carbide contacts points 0.40" long have 0.040" and 0.080" ball diameters for use on a range of surfaces. Carbide points provide durability for surfaces with a hardness rating below that of carbide. Three separate dovetail mounts allow the indicator to be mounted from the top, front, and back of the indicator and two dovetail clamping stems 3/8" and 1/4" in diameter provide a range of clamping options. The set includes a horizontal-face dial test indicator, a Certificate of Calibration, one 0.080" point, one 0.040" point, a universal clamp, a height gage attachment, a 3/8" dovetail clamp, a 1/4" dovetail clamp, and a fitted case. Dial readings with three digits, 0-10-0 for example, signify that the indicator has a balanced dial. Dial readings with two digits, 0-100 for example, indicate the dial has a continuous dial. Balanced dials are used for reading the difference from a specific surface reference point. Continuous dials are used for direct readings and usually have a larger measurement range than balanced dials. They are commonly used for detecting deviations from tolerance limits, such as small variations in flatness or height of an inspected workpiece, and permit measurement in narrow grooves or small bores. A test indicator gauge consists of a ball-tipped point on a levered arm, also called a measuring insert, which pivots from a hinge point. The reading indicates the degree of angular displacement of the arm. Test indicator gauges are commonly used in manufacturing, machining, and mechanical engineering. Standard test indicators measure the displacement of the arm perpendicular to the axis of the indicator. Dial and electronic indicators are very similar to test indicators, except that the axis of measurement is parallel to the axis of the indicator. Test indicators can be analog, with a mechanical dial, or electronic, with a digital display. Some electronic models transfer the data electronically to a computer for recording and potential manipulation. The Fred V. Fowler Company manufactures inspection and measurement instruments such as electronic indicators, calipers, bore gages, and digital scales. The company, founded in 1946, is headquartered in Newton, MA. What’s in the Box?
